Alaska is the America’s northernmost state. Located in the far northwest, it is adjacent to Canadian provinces of British Columbia and the Yukon Territory, separated from Russia by only eighty five kilometers over the Bering Strait, and it straddles the Arctic Circle. It’s the largest state by far, but the most sparsely populated, and is home to America’s highest peak (Mt. McKinley) as well as all of the top ten highest mountains in the United States and some amazing glaciers to visit on your travels across this land. So if you’re looking around for some ideas of where to go and what to see then there sure is plenty to keep you busy.

More than half of the entire state’s residents live in the greater Anchorage area. Its primary industries are gold mining, fuel production and fishing, and it is home to the largest national forest in the U.S.A., Tongass National Forest, as well as an active volcano, Augustine. The state is divided into geographical regions, the most popular to visit being South central Alaska, which includes Anchorage and has great proximity to many attractions, and Southeastern Alaska, which borders northern British Columbia, and where the capital city, Juneau, is located. Alaskan holiday adventures revolve around outdoors activities, like wildlife viewing, camping, self drive touring, hiking and paddle sports in the warmer months, and skiing, dog sledding, snowmobiling and northern lights viewing in the winter, but wherever you decide your adventure must take you, you’ll certainly find plenty of uniquely Alaskan things to do.
